They were twins:
one a hospice nurse, the other a hospice patient.
They were separated at the age of 45 when lung
cancer took one to heaven and left the other
behind. Their common love for life with a view of
eternity lives on.
As Jane Helt prepared to leave this world she was
surrounded by her family and friends, found relief
from her pain, and was able to accomplish the goals
dearest to her heart. These happy times at the end of
Jane’s life were made possible by hospice.

Founder
After Jane died, Marty Johnson
graduated from nursing school
and pursued a career in pediatric
nursing, but her passion about
hospice led her to work in and for
hospices in four states-most
recently in Rockford, Illinois
where she founded Hospice Care of
America, which is based on the
principles of caring for patients
and staff as though they are
family.
And in a sense, We Are!
